Yes. While PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), PRP (platelet-rich plasma), and PDGF (platelet-derived growth factors) all contain platelets, they come from different places. Unlike PRP or PRF, PDGF does not require a blood draw.
However, we still use naturally occurring platelets for pure PDGF microneedling. NYC skin expert Dr. Akis uses PDGF when a client’s skin needs more growth factors to heal, as PDGF provides a more concentrated and consistent dose of growth factors compared to PRP and PRF.
This doesn’t make either technique universally more effective, only more suitable for different situations. During your consultation, Dr. Akis will help you decide between PRP/PRF microneedling and pure PDGF microneedling based on your skin’s needs.
